Lutheran World Relief Needs Help

Lutheran World Relief is asking for donations now, due to the recent disasters.  Please bring any of the following to the Trinity Church Love Day room.

 Health Kit:
One hand towel, dark color recommended
One washcloth, dark color recommended
One bath-size bar (4 to 5 oz.) of soap, any brand,
                     in its original wrapping
One adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
One sturdy comb, remove packaging
One metal nail file or nail clippers with file attached, remove packaging
         (do not substitute cardboard emery boards for the file)
Six Band-Aids® (or similar brand), preferably 1/2" to 3/4"; secure together
         with a rubber band
  All items should be new and in good condition.

 Layette:
Two lightweight cotton shirts or Onesies®
Two long- or short-sleeved gowns or sleepers
Two receiving blankets, medium weight cotton or flannel, or crocheted or
         knitted with lightweight yarn, size is 36" X 36"
Four cloth diapers, flat fold
One sweater or sweatshirt
Two washcloths, full-size
One bath-size bar (4-5 oz.) of gentle soap, in its original wrapping
Two diaper pins OR two large, metal safety pins
  Gently used, clean items can be substituted for new ones.

TIPS: Sizes up to 24 months may be used. Sweaters may be knitted or crocheted from leftover yarn, or made from heavy double knits or fleece. Preferred styles have buttons or ties down the front. 

Diapers can be made from flannel.

School Kit:
Notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper approximately 8" x 10 ½" totaling
      150-200 sheets (if using 70-sheet notebooks, please include three); no
       loose-leaf paper
One blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)
One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and
       inches on the other                                                                  
One pencil sharpener
Six new, unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secure together
      with a rubber band
One eraser approximately 2 ½" long
12 sheets of construction paper in assorted colors
One box of 16 or 24 crayons
One sturdy cloth bag approximately 12" X 14" with cloth handles or
      drawstring closure
All items should be new and in good condition. Remove any excess packaging.

Sewing Kit:
Cotton or cotton-blend fabric (no knits or 100% polyester); fabric should have
      no stains or holes and be cut into a piece measuring:
2 ¼ yards of 60" wide fabric, or
3 yards of 44" wide fabric, or
4 yards of 36" wide fabric
One package of about 10-15 needles for hand sewing
One spool of matching thread, 250-300 yards
Six to 10 average-size matching buttons (1/2" to 3/4") preferred);
      attach buttons to a card or string together with yarn or heavy cord
All items should be new and in good condition.

 Additional Sewing Fabric:
 Cotton or cotton-blend fabric (no knits or 100% polyester); fabric should have no stains or holes and be cut into a piece measuring:
2 ¼ yards of 60" wide fabric, or
3 yards of 44" wide fabric, or
4 yards of 36" wide fabric
Fold each piece separately.

 LWR accepts new bars of any brand soap, in its original wrapping. Bath-size bars (4-5 oz.)
